The Minnesota taproom law turns one-year-old
It's been one year since Gov. Mark Dayton signed into law the so-called "Surly Bill" that allows microbreweries to sell pints of beer on premises. Several taprooms have opened up around the Twin Cities metro, and Indeed Brewing Company will be on that list this upcoming summer.
For Indeed, the taproom law solidified our decision to locate our brewery in an urban setting like Northeast Minneapolis. The taproom will be a meeting point for neighbors, friends, and the rest of the community. Think of it as your living room away from home.
When our taproom opens in mid-July, there will be 1,500 square feet of indoor space with seating for 70 and an occupancy of 90. There will be a 30-foot bar, booth and table seating, a shuffleboard and an outdoor patio.

A trip with a Specific purpose: our brewhouse
Things have really been moving quickly at Indeed Brewing Company during the past few weeks. The flurry of construction continues to be the most noticeable marker of our progress towards opening the brewery this summer.
Meanwhile, 1,400 miles away on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, you can walk onto the manufacturing floor at Specific Mechanical and find dozens of workers scurrying around, see sparks flying, metal crashing, with the smoky haze of welding while hanging in the air. Amidst all of this rests our 30 BBL brewing system, which is nearly ready to ship.
One of us from Indeed was lucky enough to make the trip up to Specific Mechanical by way of Seattle after attending the Craft Brewer's Conference in San Diego, leaving a long trail of empty pint glasses and oyster shells in the wake.
Visiting Specific Mechanical quickly illustrated just how crazy the craft brewing industry is right now. Specific is shipping nearly one brewing system per week, all the while completing a host of other projects including a contract to produce two 120 BBL fermentation vessels every month, for the next twelve months for a brewery that coincidentally help pioneer craft beer in cans. That brewery will go unnamed here.

Solar Arts Building, a hub for local music video productions
One common thread we share at Indeed Brewing Company is that we all have a passion for music. Our musical tastes span the gamut from local artists like Trampled By Turtles, Atmosphere, and Cloud Cult to national artists like the Black Keys, Jack White, and Phish. Music makes people come together and we can’t wait to start brewing and start blasting some tunes.
During the building’s past life prior to 2012, the Solar Arts Building was last home to an electrical transformer manufacturing company; now it will be home to a brewery and artist lofts. The building provided lots of character and ceiling height for on-location music video productions by a few local artists:
The Pines shot parts of their video: “Cry, Cry, Crow” on the second floor where there will be artist lofts. This video was produced by Daniel Cummings / Picture Machine Productions.
Brother Ali shot his video “Not a Day Goes By” in what is now the production area with our brewhouse and fermentation vessels (though, you really can’t tell because it's all black). This video was produced by Daniel Cummings and Ryan Thompson.
Now, Now band shot their video “Thread” in the old boiler room. This video was produced by Daniel Cummings.

Why 'Indeed' you ask?
At Indeed Brewing Company, we like to have fun and make an adventure in all things big and small. Choosing a name for our brewery was no exception. When we were brainstorming names for our brewery, we had all sorts of ideas. But when the name “Indeed” came into the mix, it seemed to fit just perfectly with what we were all about and our mission as a brewery.
In essence, saying “Indeed” is fun to say and a way to tout the positive side of things. The more we used it, the more we liked saying it, and others seem to have fun with it too. It beckons a certain tone, and when we hear people say Indeed, it’s memorable.
We hope you enjoy saying "Indeed," as much as we like hearing you say it. Here’s a little video we put together. See what we mean? It’s just fun!
