THE APPLE (1980) @ Grumpy’s NE
Alphie and Bibi, two naive youngsters from Moose Jaw, Canada, have come to America to compete in the Worldvision Song Festival. They are awesome but are still beaten out by the underhanded tactics of the festival favorites, another duo with the backing of BIM: Boogalow International Music, and its leader, Mr. Boogalow. Bibi and Alphie are disappointed with their loss but are soon delighted to hear that Mr. Boogalow wants to sign them to his label! Everything seems to be going great until they begin to discover the dark underside of the futuristic 1994 rock and roll world.
BLOODY BIRTHDAY (1981) @ Dark Horse
Lacking consciences because they were born during a solar eclipse, a trio of 10 year-olds embark on an indiscriminate killing spree.
COOL AS ICE (1991) @ Clubhouse Jäger
When a girl has a heart of stone, there's only one way to melt it. Just add Ice. The old teen rebel saga is updated for the rap crowd, unfortunately rapper Vanilla Ice is the teen. Ice shows up on a neon-yellow motorcycle, which gets everyone's attention, including the female honor student who has never had a rebellious bone in her body.
POOTIE TANG (2001) @ Mackenzie Pub
Pootie Tang, the musician/actor/folk hero of the ghetto, is chronicled from his early childhood to his battles against the evil Corporate America, who try to steal his magic belt and make him sell out by endorsing addictive products to his people. Pootie must learn to find himself and defeat the evil corporation for all the young black children of America, supatime.
This screening will be accompanied with a retro Blaxploitation trailer reel curated by the good people at Tape Freaks.
Enjoy the show!
