Moms Mental Health initiative is a small nonprofit dedicated to helping moms and birthing people navigate perinatal mental health conditions through peer support, resource brokering and education/advocacy. The perinatal period encompasses pregnancy through postpartum. Most people have heard of postpartum depression, but there’s a range of conditions that include anxiety, PTSD, OCD, psychosis, bipolar, substance use disorder and more.
Most people interact with Moms Mental Health Initiative through their peer support groups or resource brokering- where they help people connect with a therapist or provider who can help them. They also assist through education and advocacy work. Their Executive Director goes into hospitals, community organizations, businesses and more to educate people about perinatal mental health conditions, all from the perspective of people who have gone through them.
