The lot\, known for illegal activity\, was a sore spot for much of the surrounding community\, who rallied around the building of the DIY because it drove these activites out  of the space. After several years of steady growth and support from the community\, they were tasked with organizing as a Non Profit\, so they  could legitimately run the space with the partnership of the City\, County\, and State governments. \nTheir mission is to encourage youth recreation\, promote safe skating spaces\, and build a stronger community through skateboarding. \nNational DIY stands as an example of what can be achieved when diverse and dedicated communities create things together. Now\, it’s a nonprofit with city backing..After beginning in an old Park n Ride in the Walkers Point neighborhood\, they soon experienced overwhelming support from neighbors and skaters. The lot\, known for illegal activity\, was a sore spot for much of the surrounding community\, who rallied around the building of the DIY because it drove these activites out  of the space. After several years of steady growth and support from the community\, they were tasked with organizing as a Non Profit\, so they  could legitimately run the space with the partnership of the City\, County\, and State governments. \nTheir mission is to encourage youth recreation\, promote safe skating spaces\, and build a stronger community through skateboarding. \nNational DIY stands as an example of what can be achieved when diverse and dedicated communities create things together.
